On Monday January 6, 2014, at 5:21 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to a residence in the 10300 block of North Tyler Avenue on the report that an armed man broke down the front door demanding money and was knocked out by one of the residents.
Officers arrived at the home and took the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Joshua McCoy, into custody.
The residents told police that McCoy kicked in the front door of the home, armed with a pistol-grip shotgun, and demanded money. A 20-year-old male resident confronted McCoy on the stairs inside the home, grabbed the shotgun and shoved McCoy down the stairs. McCoy hit his head on the way down and was briefly knocked unconscious. The victim and his mother's boyfriend then maintained watch over the suspect until police arrived. The victims did not know the suspect.
McCoy was transported to a Portland hospital for non-life-threatening injuries he suffered during his fall.
After treatment at a Portland hospital, McCoy was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Robbery in the First Degree, Robbery in the Second Degree and Burglary in the First Degree. He will be arraigned on Tuesday.
Detectives do not know why McCoy targeted this home and are asking that anyone with information contact Detective Brett Hawkinson at (503) 823-1080 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
