Deputies are continuing their investigation of the shooting that occurred Thursday night in the garage of a duplex in Southeast Salem.

The victim is identified as Jesse Arredondo, age 14.  He was treated and released from the Salem Hospital for a single gunshot wound to the right shoulder.  Arredondo told investigators that his 11-year old friend brought the gun to Jesse's house to show it to him and several other juveniles.  While being handled by the 11-year old, the gun discharged, striking Jesse.  Jesse felt the shooting was unintentional.  The other juveniles present at the time the gun went off are being interviewed.

The 11-year old was sent home by Jesse's mother and Jesse was transported to the Salem Hospital for treatment.

Deputies learned that the .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun was owned by the father of the 11-year old.  The father told deputies that the gun is normally stored in a gun safe at their home.  He said he was not aware his son had gained access to the gun.

At this time, the names of the 11-year old and his father are being withheld until the investigation can be completed and reviewed by the District Attorney's office to determine if any charges will be filed against either the 11-year old or his father.
