Tuesday afternoon at approximately 2:45 p.m. Multnomah County Sheriff's Office and Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue responded to the report of a head-on vehicular accident involving two vehicles on NW Cornelius Pass Rd between NW Kaiser and NW Skyline Blvd. Emergency Personnel arriving on scene found both vehicles involved were single occupant and the driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was transported for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

Preliminary investigation indicates a Honda Civic traveling NW on NW Cornelius Pass Rd, crossed over the center line and struck a Hyundai Sonata traveling SE on NW Cornelius Pass Rd. Neil T. Schneider, age 45, of Scappoose, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Janie Edwards, age 42, of Hillsboro, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses had reported observing the Honda Civic driving erratically as it travelled on NW Cornelius Pass Rd prior to the accident. Initial indications are alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

The accident investigation is continuing and once completed will be forwarded to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for review.
