Two people injured when their car crashed upside down in the Molalla River early Sunday morning remain hospitalized.
Giovanni Demartino, age 22, from Clackamas, was the driver. He's in critical condition.
The passenger, Danie Fournier, age 23, from Oregon City, is in stable condition.
Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in this crash. The case has been forwarded to the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office for charges of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and Assault.
Just after midnight Sunday, Clackamas County received a 911 call reporting a vehicle crash on the Molalla Forest Rd east of Molalla. A vehicle had gone off the roadway and landed upside down in the river. Two people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The crash occurred about 7 miles east of the intersection with Dickey Prairie Rd.
Molalla Fire and Clackamas County Sheriff's Office were first on scene. The Clackamas County Water Rescue Consortium also responded.
Crews arriving found two men on top of the vehicle in the water. The vehicle left the roadway and went off a 30 foot cliff before hitting some rocks then landing in the river. The vehicle was upside down and almost completely submerged. One of the males was the driver who was pulled from the water by a male who was not involved in the crash.
Fournier was able to get out and swam to shore on the other side of the river. Two passerby's waded across and provided her aid until rescue crews arrived.
After reaching the injured parties rescue crews had to use a rapid deployment craft raft to bring them to shore. Then they had to be brought up a steep cliff by rope teams.
Molalla Fire, Colton Fire, Gladstone Fire, Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue, Clackamas Fire, Clackamas County Dive and Marine Patrol all responded to the crash.
