Portland Makes Best Cities List for Vegans and Vegetarians!

While a lot of us can’t imagine going a day without eating meat, there are plenty of people in this country who swear by the vegan or vegetarian lifestyle. And while it’s getting easier and easier to be vegan/vegetarian these days, there are still some areas in the country that provide better options than others.  Now, a new report reveals which cities are doing it the best when it comes to those shunning animal products.

WalletHub has just come out with their list of the Best Cities for Vegans and Vegetarians judging 100 of the largest American cities across 16 key indicators of vegan- and vegetarian-friendliness, including cost of groceries for vegetarians, the share of restaurants serving meatless options, salad shops per capita and more.

Overall, vegans and vegetarians living in New York City have it the best, with the Big Apple topping the list yet again this year. New York scores a 68.82 out of 100 earning high marks for Diversity, Accessibility and Quality, which includes share of restaurants serving vegan/vegetarian options, share of farmers markets and CSA programs, access to fresh vegetarian food and more. The Rose City is second!

As for the worst city for vegans and vegetarians, Baton Rouge, Louisiana gets the honor, scoring just a 25.32, and landing close to the bottom for Vegetarian Lifestyle.
