In the capsule today…
We find the US Air Force combing the Spanish countryside, looking for four missing nuclear weapons. Three were immediately found, and the fourth took two and a half months to locate.
We find a comedy film about the grounding of a Soviet submarine off the coast of New England. “The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming!” was one of the only American films at the time to portray the Soviets in a positive light.
And we find a song on the radio by the Spencer Davis Group. "I'm A Man" was the final release to feature Steve Winwood, who then left to form the band “Traffic.”
