We find “The David Letterman Show” making its debut in the morning on NBC. Letterman's humor does not go over well with a morning audience, and the show is canceled after four months. David’s late night show would come two years later.
We find a Pennsylvania Lottery scandal known as the “Triple Six Fix.” All of the lottery balls were weighted in the 3-digit “Daily Number Game,” except those numbered 4 and 6. Unusual betting patterns alerted authorities to the crime.
And we find a song by Queen going to number one on the charts. Freddie Mercury wrote “A Crazy Little Thing Called Love” while taking a bubble bath in his room at the Munich Hilton. The head of Queen's road crew recalled "He emerged, wrapped in a towel, I handed him the guitar, and he worked out the chords there and then.”
