In the time capsule today…
We find the musical comedy “Grease” theaters. The film contains the curious blurring of various Coca-Cola signs. That’s because the film producer signed a product-placement agreement with Pepsi after the scenes were shot. Pepsi demanded a reshoot to remove the Coke signage, but settled for blurring when the task was deemed too expensive and time-consuming.
We find the Catholic Church electing a new pope! Pope John Paul II became the first non-Italian pope in 455 years… and the first from a communist country!
And we find a controversial song on the radio by Billy Joel. The song was languishing on the charts until religious groups deemed the lyrics anti-Catholic, and tried to get the song banned from radio. As a result of the outcry, the single rocketed up the charts.
