In the time capsule today…

We find a 12-person syndicate led by George Steinbrenner purchasing the New York Yankees for $10 million from CBS.

We find the debut of the police drama "Kojak” on CBS-TV. In Brazil, the show was so successful that in the 1970s and 1980s the term "Kojak" became Brazilian slang for "bald man".

And we find a song on the radio by Stealers Wheel. The song was written by the group's guitarist Gerry Rafferty. The song was meant to be a parody, ridiculing Bob Dylan's paranoia, and music industry cocktail parties. To his disbelief the song struck gold, selling more than a million copies.
