In the time capsule today…
We find the Volkswagen Rabbit entering production as the replacement for the well-loved but antiquated Beetle.
We find Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather Part II” in theaters. The film is the first sequel to win Best Picture, and The Godfather one and two remain the only original and sequel combination to both win Best Picture.
And we find a song on the radio by John Lennon. Elton John sang backing vocals and also played piano on this track. The two performed the song together later that year at Madison Square Garden, which turned out to be John’s last live concert performance.
