We find President Carter signing a treaty to give Panama control of the U.S. built and financed Panama Canal. Full control was officially handed over in 1999.
We find the last game played by Brazilian soccer star Pelé. Pelé is still considered to be the greatest soccer player of all time… scoring over 1,200 career goals and helping Brazil win three World Cups.
And we find a song on the radio by Hall and Oates. The track is based on an ex-boyfriend of Daryl Hall's then girlfriend. The ex-boyfriend was a spoiled heir to a fast-food restaurant fortune. And when writing the song, everyone agreed that switching the genders worked better for the song.
