For many people, Christmas is just about spending time with family. For others, there are a lot of things that go into a perfect holiday season, whether it’s going out to holiday events, shopping, dining out, or attending church services. The site looked at 100 of the biggest metro areas to determine the Best Places For Christmas based on 29 key indicators of a festive and affordable holiday. Indicators fell into four categories:
- Traditions and Fun - like Christmas events, ice skating rings and restaurants
- Observance - which focuses on churches per capita
- Generosity - as in how much people donate and give during the holiday season
- Shopping - which is pretty self-explanatory
So, which city in the country is the best place to celebrate Christmas? Well, Chicago, Illinois tops the list overall, ranking high for Observance (4), and Traditions and Fun (7), as well as Shopping (8). Not surprisingly, New York, which ranks fourth overall, tops the list in Traditions and Fun, while Las Vegas is tops for Shopping, Seattle is number one for Generosity, and Birmingham, Alabama is tops for Observance.
