Woman Who Bragged About Getting Away on Police's Facebook Page Arrested

Woman who trolled Washington police about getting away arrested

Turns out, bragging about 'thwarting' the police on the police department's Facebook page is not a great strategy for staying out of jail as one Washington state woman discovered.

Kayla Irizzary, 19 was arrested early Saturday nearly two weeks after she managed to elude the Moses Lake police department. It all began when cops conducted a routine traffic stop two weeks ago on a vehicle where Irizzary was a passenger. Officers arrested the driver, 27-year-old Giovanni Powell for driving while suspended, and allowed Irizzary to leave because at the time, they had no legal reason to detain her.

But, after officers searched the vehicle, they discovered Irizzary's ID, along with a derringer pistol, heroin, and paperwork from the last time she had been in jail. Because Irizzary is a convicted felon, it's illegal for her to possess a firearm and officers issued a warrant for her arrest.

But, much like Icarus, Irizzary flew too close to the police department's Facebook page, deciding to troll the officers for 'thwarting' them and getting away.

That hubris would cost Irizzary her freedom as it turned out. Cops set up a meeting with Irizzary using 'covert investigative techniques. When the woman showed up for their meeting, she realized she had been set up, and tried to make a run for it on foot.

Authorities say Irizzary was caught 'in about four steps' and booked into Grant County Jail on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of heroin, both charges stemming from the original incident.

What social media giveth, social media taketh away: Woman who trolled MLPD back in custody

You may recall that last week, we shared a story about Kayla Irizzary, a 19 year old woman who was contacted as a passenger on a traffic stop. As our officers had no legal reason to detain her, she was released from the scene. A subsequent search warrant on the vehicle revealed a purse that contained her identification and a pistol, which Irizzary is not eligible to possess as she is a prolific felon. Officers were not able to immediately re-locate her and arrest her.

Irizzary got on MLPD’s Facebook page and was bragging about getting away, which we believe is the number one killer of criminal karma that there is….

This morning about 2:30 am, officers using covert investigative techniques 😉 set up a meeting with Irizzary, ironically enough using social media. Irizzary showed up, and when she realized she had been set up, made a run for it on foot.

She was caught in about four steps and booked into the Grant County Jail on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of heroin. Both charges were from the original incident.
