The home planet of Captain Spock from Star Trek might actually exist!
Astronomers have discovered a new exoplanet that orbits 40 Eridani A, which is where the fictional planet, Vulcan, would be because “Star Trek” creators used that sun in the story. An exoplanet is a planet located outside the sun's solar system.
The newly-discovered one is 16 light years away and twice the size of Earth. University of Florida astronomy professor Jian Ge [[ goo ]] says it's most likely uninhabitable because half of it orbits a star, and is likely too hot. It might be possible to live on the other half, though. Ge says he wants the exoplanet to be named Vulcan. Geeked out yet?
