We find "Decimal Day" in the UK and Ireland. Before this the British pound was made up of 20 shillings, each of which was made up of 12 pence, for a total of 240 pence per pound. Moving forward the pound was subdivided into 100 "new pence" and the shilling abolished.

We find “A Clockwork Orange” in theaters. Stanley Kubrick described the film as, "Asking the question: Could psychological conditioning enable a totalitarian government to turn its citizens into little more than robots?”

And we find a song on the radio by the Temptations. The song marks return to their original "soul sound" after a contentious detour into psychedelia. The song became the groups’ third number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
