Carson Time Capsule... Wednesday, August 26th.

In the capsule today…

We find the Mariel boatlift… a mass emigration of Cubans lasting several months. Over 125,000 Cubans traveled by boat from Cuba's Mariel Harbor to Florida.

We find Richard Pryor in the hospital. In a drug-induced psychosis, Richard doused himself in 151-proof rum, and then lit himself on fire. He suffered burns on over 50% of his body and nearly died.

And we find a song by The Romantics unsuccessfully hitting the charts. The song barely cracked the top 50 before fizzling out. However, the song found new life years later when used as an advertising jingle for Budweiser beer!
