In the capsule today…

We find Richard McCoy Jr. hijacking a United Airlines jet and making away with a half a million dollars. Richard is believed by some to be D.B. Cooper.

We find Bobby Fischer defeating Boris Spassky on the chessboard in the “Match of the Century” in Reykjavík, Ice-land. Bobby becomes the first American-born world chess champion.

And we find a song on the radio by the Eagles. Jackson Browne started writing the song, but didn't know how to finish it. Glenn Frey happened to be his upstairs neighbor… and Jackson gave Glenn the song to finish and keep. The Eagles used it as the first song on their first album, and it was their first single.
