Carson Time Capsule... Thursday, November 19th.

In the capsule today…

We find the debut of “The Far Side,” a newspaper comic strip created by Tacoma, Washington cartoonist Gary Larson.

We find a parody film of the disaster movie-genre in theaters. The role of Ted Striker was written for David Letterman, though he was not selected after a screen test. Bruce Jenner also read for the part. The role eventually went to Robert Hays in “Airplane!”

And we find a song on the radio by Diana Ross. "Upside Down" was written and produced by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers of the band Chic. Diana hated the original mix however, and demanded that her voice be louder. The team told Ross to go do it herself. She did. And the song went to number one.
