Carson Time Capsule... Monday, December 21st.

In the capsule today…

We find Federal Express officially beginning operations, with 14 small aircraft flying out of Memphis. On the first night, 186 packages were delivered to 25 cities. Ten years later the company had a billion dollars in revenues.

We find Johnny Carson joking about a toilet paper shortage. People did not realize it was a joke, however… and then panic-bought toilet paper, which caused an actual shortage!

And we find a Christmas song on the radio by Elton John. “Step Into Christmas” was written by Bernie Taupin on a Sunday morning and recorded by Elton later that afternoon. The B-Side to the holiday single is the oddly titled "Ho! Ho! Ho! (Who'd Be A Turkey At Christmas)."

What is the year? (answer below).
