In the capsule today…

We find the debut of the Pat Sajak show. Sajak said that he was "not looking to raise the level of TV," and planned to "steal liberally" from talk-shows past and present. The effort did not go unnoticed, and the show was unceremoniously cancelled a year later.

We find one of the biggest goals in U.S. soccer history, referred to as the "shot heard round the world." The goal came in a qualifier against Trinidad and Tobago by Paul Caligiuri… and it allowed the U.S. national team to enter the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1950.

And we find a song on the radio by the Fine Young Cannibals. “Good Thing” made its first appearance in the movie Tin Men. FYC portrayed the house band of a nightclub in the film.
