Carson Time Capsule... Tuesday, January 5th.

In the capsule today…

We find Simon & Garfunkel performing at a free benefit concert in Central Park, New York City. The Parks Department expected 300,000 attendees, but half of a million people showed up… making it the seventh-largest concert in US history.

In theaters we find a film set in the future world of 1997... where Manhattan is not a city, but rather a maximum-security prison. Ex-soldier Snake Plissken is given 24-hours to rescue the kidnapped President, in “Escape from New York!”

And on the radio, we find “Hold On Tight” by the Electric Light Orchestra. However, the band was now calling themselves ELO, downplaying the orchestra part, because they had jettisoned their string section.

What is the year? (answer below).
