Carson Time Capsule... Tuesday, January 12th.

In the capsule today…

We find a frightening puppet-adventure film in theaters directed by Jim Henson. Jim's intention for “The Dark Crystal” was to, "get back to the darkness of the original "Grimms' Fairy Tales,” as he believed it was unhealthy for children to never be afraid.

We find the first episode of “Cheers” on NBC. The model for Cheers… the Bull & Finch Pub in Boston... was chosen randomly from a phone book. Bull & Finch owner Tom Kershaw charged producers $1 to use exterior photos for the show. He then made millions licensing the pub's image for a variety of Cheers memorabilia.

And we find “Bang The Drum All Day” on the radio by Todd Rundgren. Todd said that most of this song came to him in a dream. He immediately rolled out of bed, recorded what he could remember at a nearby studio, and filled in the rest later.
