In the time capsule today…
We find Roger Moore starring in his third Bond film. “The Spy Who Loved Me” features a villian with big teeth, a submarine car, and an escape pod... with a full bar.
We find the debut of the Chia Pet, a novelty gift item with surprising staying power. The catchphrase jingle originated at an advertising agency meeting, in which an executive pretended to stutter the product name.
And we find a song on the radio by Player. The band didn’t exist when Peter Beckett and J. C. Crowley pitched the song to producers. The group was signed to a record deal on the strength of the demo! The two found a drummer, and recorded “Baby Come Back” before they ever played it live.
