In the time capsule today…

We find cigarettes no longer welcome on most US domestic flights. The ban applied to all passengers, but not the flight deck; pilots were still allowed to smoke due to concerns over nicotine withdrawal.

We find Kevin Costner producing, directing and starring in "Dances With Wolves." Most of the dialogue is spoken in with English subtitles, which American audiences generally do not accommodate. However, the movie defied expectations, and became a box office success... and went on to win an Oscar for Best Picture.

And we find the song “Escapade” on the radio by Janet Jackson. Janet was initially going to do a remake of "Nowhere to Run" by Martha And The Vandellas. But her producers argued successfully for an original song with a similar beat, in order to keep more of the songwriting royalties.
