In the time capsule today…

We find “The Karate Kid” in theaters. The film is based on the life of its screenwriter, Robert Mark Kamen. At age 17, Robert was beaten up by a gang of bullies. He then studied martial arts in order to defend himself.

We find the nation's first seat-belt usage law. Though federal law required cars to be fitted with seat belts, they were not required to be used. New York changes this with a law requiring occupants to strap in.

And we find a song on the radio by Corey Hart. When Corey was recording his “First Offense” album in the UK, it rained almost every day. He kept carrying around a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses, but never had the chance to use them. “Sunglasses At Night” was the result...
