Carson Time Capsule... Monday, May 10th.

In the time capsule today…

We find the launch of The Drug Abuse Resistance Education program, otherwise known as D.A.R.E. The program seeks to prevent drug use, though studies have repeatedly shown it to be completely ineffective.

We find the film adaptation of “The Outsiders” in theaters. Director Francis Ford Coppola became interested in the project after receiving a letter from a school librarian suggesting a film version of the book.

And we find a song on the radio by Eddy Grant. The title references an actual street in south London, the first market street to be lit by electricity. It was also the scene of an early 80s brutal race riot, of which the song is written about.
