In the time capsule today…
We find McDonald's introducing the Happy Meal! The idea came from a franchise owner in Guatemala who boxed up a hamburger, small fries and small sundae to make ordering easier for parents.
We find Superman in theaters. The lead was offered to Robert Redford, Burt Reynolds and Paul Newman… who all turned it down. The search became so desperate that one of the producer’s screen-tested his dentist for the role. Newcomer Christopher Reeves eventually landed the role.
And we find a song on the radio by The Cars. Writing and lead singer Ric Ocasek wrote the song as a sarcastic commentary on the lack of control one has over their own image in rock music.
