Carson Time Capsule... Monday, May 24th.

In the time capsule today…

We find the dramatic end of the Vietnam War with the “Fall of Saigon.” US ground combat units had left South Vietnam more than two years prior, and were not available to assist with either the defense of Saigon or the evacuation.

We find the launch of the USS Nimitz, the first nuclear-powered supercarrier. The Nimitz is now the oldest U.S. carrier in service, and the oldest serving aircraft carrier in the world.

And we find a song on the radio by the Doobie Brothers. The track was written by Motown team Holland–Dozier–Holland in 1964. Though the song was recorded that year by Eddie Holland, it wasn’t released until 2005… and the Doobie Brothers’ version is the one everyone knows.

What is the year? (answer below).
