In the time capsule today…
We find climbers Dean Caldwell and Warren Harding make history as the first to climb El Capitan’s “Wall of Early Morning Light” in Yosemite National Park.
We find Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Dock Ellis forgetting that he had to pitch a game later in the day. He took some LSD around noon thinking that he had the day off, and then later that evening found himself on the mound pitching a no hitter.
And we find a song on the radio by the English rock band Free. The song was written after a bad gig where the band walked offstage to scant applause. They agreed that an uptempo number was needed to end the show… so bass player Andy Fraser sat down in the dressing room, and wrote this track in 10 minutes.
