In the time capsule today…
We find Jimmy Carter winning the Presidency in a very close race. Gerald Ford won every state west of Texas with the exception of Hawaii. With the Hawaiian vote counted the election was called at 3:30AM Eastern time.
We find Sol Price and his son, Robert, opening the first Price Club warehouse. Price Club Warehouse #1 was built in old San Diego airplane hangars, and it’s still in operation today. Price Club and Costco merged in 1993, taking the Costco name.
And we find a song on the radio by Earth Wind and Fire. The song was built around a riff that guitarist Al McKay came up with in his dressing room at a show. The lyrics were kept simple to convey a joyful message about the power of song.
