In the time capsule today…

We find the beginnings of the first oil crisis, with OPEC targeting nations perceived as supporting Israel during the Yom Kippur War. Six months later, the price of oil tripled.

We find the completion of the Sears Tower in Chicago. The 108 floor structure became the tallest building in the world, a title it held for 25 years. The building could have been covered in granite. However, aluminum producers submitted a revised bid after the builders made a fact finding trip to Italy.

And we find a song on the radio by Jim Croce. Jim wrote “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown” about a colorful man he met in the Army. The soldier went AWOL, but was arrested when he came back at the end of the month to collect his paycheck.
