Carson Time Capsule... Wednesday, August 25th.

In the time capsule today…

We find the baseball fantasy movie “Field of Dreams“ in theaters. The role of Ray was first offered to Tom Hanks but he turned it down. Kevin Costner took the part, though he starred in another baseball movie, “Bill Durham,” just a year prior.

We find a pink mechanical toy rabbit interrupting dubious TV commercial messages. The Energizer Bunny was created as a parody of the Duracell Bunny, which was a fixture in 1970s TV ads. Duracell let the trademark lapse, and Energizer hopped to work.

And we find a song on the radio by Guns and Roses. “Paradise City” was written by the band in the back of a rental van after a gig in San Francisco. The song became their third single to reach the top 10.
