Elephant's Deli on Northwest 22nd in Portland suffered significant damage in a fire early Tuesday morning.
The fire may have started on the outside and worked its way into the attic of the nearly 80 year old building.
The structure of the building made it difficult to access the fire and when the roof weakened, firefighters had to work from below. Eventually, an overhead stream was used to flood the attic to put out the fire. No injuries were reported.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
