In the time capsule today…

We find a Wendy’s commercial with a line that becomes a catchphrase across the United States and Canada. 81-year-old Clara Peller made the three-word phrase a cultural phenomenon, and herself a cult star. Sales at Wendy's jumped 31% as a result.

We find the first Police Academy movie in theaters. The movie premise resulted from producer Paul Maslansky encountering a San Francisco police sergeant dressing down ludicrous-looking police cadets. When asked, the sergeant explained that the mayor ordered the department to accept a broad spectrum for the police academy. He added, "We have to take them in, and the only thing we can do is wash them out."

And we find a song on the radio by Wang Chung. Band member and songwriter Nick Feldman almost gave the song to Michael Jackson. Michael and Quincy Jones got a demo while selecting songs for Thriller. The song was not picked, and the band decided to record it themselves.
