The victim who was killed in an assault on Portland's Eastbank Esplanade has been identified.
On Friday, March 22nd police responded to Southeast Madison Street at the east end of the Hawthorne Bridge where 70-year-old John Garcia had been assaulted.
Bystanders intervened in the assault and firefighters from the nearby Fire Station tried to help Garcia, but he died at the scene.
The suspect, 29-year-old Abel Nistor, of Portland, was treated at a hospital and then arrested. He's charged with Murder in the Second Degree.
