Help the Victims of Hurricane Harvey

While we're enjoying a last blast of hot summer weather, Hurricane Harvey (which is now downgraded to a tropical storm) is devastating Houston, Texas. Flooding is causing major problems, tens of thousands of people displaced from their homes. Some meteorologists are saying this could be the worst flooding disaster in U.S. history. Watch for gas prices to rise everywhere in the country as oil refineries are affected along the Gulf Coast as well. Several organizations are actively helping victims weather the storm and need our assistance. If you want to donate here are some:

  • American Red Cross. They are sheltering residents and putting volunteers in place to act once waters recede. Donate by heading here or text “HARVEY” to 90999 to give ten dollars.
  • They are accepting donations on their site to get medical supplies and other necessities to residents.
  • Austin Pets Alive. The organization says it has transported over 235 animals to its shelter since Saturday morning. You can donate here.
  • Feeding Texas. This is the state network of food banks. Donate here.
