Police Seek Tips In Firefighter Stabbing

Portland Police are asking for tips to help identify a suspect in a stabbing that wounded an off-duty Portland firefighter.

The lieutenant with the Portland Fire Bureau was at the Kingston bar in the Goose Hollow neighborhood Saturday night when the stabbing happened.

KATU News reports witnesses say the suspect walked into the restaurant, stabbed the victim and then left. They say the attack was unprovoked.

The victim was stabbed on the arm and chest. He was treated at a hospital and released.

Assault Detectives are releasing a suspect description and some initial surveillance images of the suspect in an effort to identify him.

The suspect is described as a male, mid-20's in age, 5-foot-4-inches to 5-foot-8-inches in height, about 170 pounds, with black crew-cut hair, unshaven face, an athletic build, olive colored skin, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

Detectives continue to seek out evidence and additional witnesses. Portland Fire and Rescue Chief Sara Boone released the following statement:

"Yesterday, January 18th, an off- duty Portland Fire & Rescue Lieutenant was assaulted with a knife while at a local restaurant in SW Portland. The fire lieutenant suffered non-life-threatening lacerations to the upper body from an unknown person in an unprovoked attack.

Portland Fire & Rescue would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the agencies who responded to the scene including American Medical Response, Portland Police Bureau, Portland Fire & Rescue Station #3, and to the staff at Emanuel Hospital. The promptness, collaboration, and professionalism of all these agencies proved a positive outcome for our fire lieutenant.

Portland Police Bureau is currently investigating the assault; therefore, we will not be releasing any further information regarding the incident. Portland Fire & Rescue would like to respect the privacy of our lieutenant and their family as the lieutenant recovers from the injuries and emotional trauma of the event.
