Multnomah County is breaking ground on one of its most historic building projects. North Portland Library will be renovated and expanded, adding 15-hundred square feet while preserving the historic Carnegia building on Killingsworth Street.

The addition will provide space for a new Black Cultural Center. The addition was based on input from the community to also include outdoor space where people can meet, updated technology and internet access plus new art that represents the community in coordination with the Regional Arts & Culture Council.

North Portland Library closed to begin the construction process on this approximately $12 million project on April 5th. The Library is scheduled to reopen in fall 2024.
