Target has announced it'll close three stores in Portland, because of theft and organized retail crime.

The stores are the downtown Galleria, Southeast Powell Boulevard, and Northeast Halsey Street. They will close October 21st.

Target is closing a total of nine stores across the country in New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland.

In May, Target CEO Brian Cornell expressed reluctance to close stores, saying the company knows how important they are for creating jobs and generating tax revenue for communities. Target has almost two-thousand locations across the country.

In August, Target announced that nationwide sales were down 5.4% in the second quarter.
