Police airplane video captured two men firing shots on Rocky Butte and the pursuit that caught them

On Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 7:08p.m., East Precinct, K9, Air Support Unit (ASU), Traffic Division, and Focused Intervention Team (FIT) officers responded to a report of shots fired on Rocky Butte. ASU was on scene first and could see someone firing shots out of the passenger side of a pickup truck on Northeast Rocky Butte Road. As the pickup’s driver proceeded down Northeast Rocky Butte Road ASU’s Tactical Flight Officer witnessed additional shots being fired out of both sides of the truck. Some shots were being fired at or near homes.

Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver eluded in highly dangerous manner, driving at high speed, swerving into oncoming lanes of traffic, and running traffic control devices. Officers were attempting to implement intervention techniques, and an officer successfully deployed spike strips to deflate the left rear tire. The driver continued driving on a flat tire until the driver lost control and spun out at Northeast 81st Avenue and Northeast Fremont Street.
