Today May 18th Is The 42nd Anniversary Of The Eruption Of Mt. St. Helens

8:32 am on Sunday May 18, 1980 the largest volcanic eruption in US history happened on Mt. St. Helens, here is a graphic videoPhoto: You Tube

It is hard to believe it's been 42 years ago that Mt. St. Helens erupted. I was covering 62KGW Skyview Traffic on some of the previous smaller eruptions. I actually flew in a traffic plane around the plume and did reports. The Sunday morning of the major eruption I was just waking up at my parents house when my mom yelled upstairs, "Honey the mountain blew and it's big". It really was. The video above shows the magnitude and the video below shows a NASA time lapse from space of Mt. St. Helens as the land heals over 30 years. If you weren't alive then, or wasn't living here, make sure you watch these. A mark in history never to be forgotten.
