In the capsule today…
We find the Denver Nuggets and Detroit Pistons playing into triple overtime, and setting the NBA record for most combined points scored in a game… an incredible 370! Possibly more surprising, is that only two three-point shots were made in the entire contest.
We find desperate parents trying to get their hands on Cabbage Patch dolls in time for Christmas. “First of its kind” violent outbursts ricocheted across the country in what became known as the “Cabbage Patch riots.”
And we find a song on the radio by The Tubes. Lead singer and songwriter Fee Waybill wrote“ She's A Beauty” after visiting a massage parlor in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district. The original lyric, "You can talk to a naked girl," was changed to “pretty girl” to cater to radio airplay.
