Carson Time Capsule... Monday, March 15th.

In the time capsule today…

We find a film based on a book by Mario Puzo. Over the objection from his agent, Paramount Pictures purchased the movie rights from Mario for only $80,000, and “The Godfather” became one of the highest grossing films of all time.

We find the first subscription television service being launched. The name “Home Box Office” was intended as a working title, with the belief that management would come up with a better name at a later date. Instead the name HBO stuck!

And we find “Listen To The Music” on the radio by The Doobie Brothers. Tom Johnston came up with the guitar riff at three in the morning. He immediately called producer Ted Templeman to play it for him. Though Tom was convinced that the lick would become a huge hit, Ted was less enthusiastic after being woke up in the middle of a deep sleep.

What is the year? (answer below).
