Carson Time Capsule... Friday, April 23rd.

In the time capsule today…

We find a film written and directed by Sylvester Stallone. Sylvester wrote the screenplay in three and a half days, and though completely unknown at the time, insisted on playing the lead role. “Rocky” became the highest-grossing film of the year, and went on to win 3 Academy Awards, including best picture.

We find the Mars company eliminating production of red M&Ms and replacing them with an orange color due to the “red dye” scare. The FDA banned food coloring Red No. 2 for being a possible carcinogen. Though M&Ms did not use that food dye, they did not want any confusion.

And we find a song by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. The song was never a chart hit, but it became one of their most popular songs anyway. Tom said that the girl in this song wasn’t based on a real person, but rather, “A composite, a character who yearned for more than had life had dealt her."

What is the year? (answer below).
