In the time capsule today…
We find East Coast beaches dealing with “syringe tide.” Significant amounts of medical waste from New York's Fresh Kills landfill, including hypodermic needles and raw garbage, washed up onto beaches.
We find the first episode of The Wonder Years on ABC. Show producers asked five different casting directors to search for a lead actor. And they all came back with the same recommendation: the kid who played the grandson in “The Princess Bride,” Fred Savage.
And we find a song on the radio by Joan Jett. Joan’s original title for the song was “I Hate Myself Because I Can't Get Laid." Wisely, her producer Kenny Laguna suggested swapping in the word “love” instead.
