In the time capsule today…

We find the EPA banning the use of pesticide DDT. Widespread use of the chemical resulted in huge population declines for birds of prey. The bald eagle population went from 400,000 in the 1800's to just 400 nesting pairs by the 1950s.

We find Bobby Fischer defeating Russia’s Boris Spassky on the chessboard in the “Match of the Century” in Reykjavík, Ice-land. Bobby becomes the first American-born world chess champion.

And we find a song on the radio by Chicago. Songwriter Robert Lamm was inspired to pen “Saturday In The Park” after a visit to New York City’s Central Park. After seeing steel drum players, dancers, and jugglers he said, 'It's time to put music to this!"
